Today we travelled past some of the most beautiful and rugged lakes and mountains in British Columbia
Last night we decided to go out of the hotel for dinner. We found a lovely little restaurant a short walk through the mall àrea of this charming village. Streets are largely for pedestrian traffic. We dined with Greg and Deb from Newcastle.
We entered the hotel via the Lower Lobby and took No 2 Lift. This turned out to be a bad choice as we were stuck in the lift for a half hour. After the door closed it gave a heavy lurch and a loud banging noise before shuddering to a halt. The four of us were stuck there till the fire brigade came to release the doors. The night ended fairly well with a few stiff drinks at the bar.
This morning we left Sun Peaks and travelled through beautiful and rugged country in British Columbia. There is such a variety of scenery with large ranches close to Sun Peaks and then we drove through arid country around Kamloops Dam and on to our morning break at Hat Creek Ranch.
We travelled through Highway 99 to Lillooet for our lunch stop. This town is in Indian reserve and has a fine museum which, unfortunately, was closed.
Late in the afternoon, we arrived at Whistler - one of Canada's newest and most exciting mountain resorts and host of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Our accommodation tonight is the deluxe Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Here is a shot from the Window of our room. We are off to look around the Lower Village and find a nice restaurant. I will post more pictures tomorrow.
